ভৌগলিক বিস্তৃতি (Geographical Distribution)
ভারত, নেপাল ও বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন নদীর অববাহিকায় পাওয়া যায় (Talwar and Jhingran 1991)।

সংরক্ষণ অবস্থা (Conservation status)
এই মাছের বৈশ্বিক সংরক্ষণ অবস্থা Least Concern (LC) অর্থাৎ প্রকৃতিতে এই মাছ বিস্তৃত পরিসরে পর্যাপ্ত পরিমাণে পাওয়া যায়। জনতার ধার (Population Trend) এখনও অজানা (Chaudhry, 2010)।

বাহ্যিক দৈহিক গঠন (External Morphology)
লম্বা দেহ পার্শ্বীয়ভাবে চাপা । তুলনামূলক বড় আকারের চোখ মাথার উভয় পাশে বেশিরভাগ অংশজুড়ে অবস্থান করে। মুখের হা উপরের দিকে উন্মুক্ত। অঙ্কীয় প্রান্তের বক্ষপাখনা থেকে পায়ুপাখনা পর্যন্ত ধারালো।
পৃষ্ঠপাখনা পায়ুপাখনার বিপরীতে পৃষ্ঠদেশে অবস্থিত। বক্ষপাখনা মাথার দৈর্ঘ্যের চেয়ে দীর্ঘ। শ্রোণীপাখনা বক্ষপাখনা অপেক্ষা পায়ুপাখনার নিকটে অবস্থিত। পুচ্ছপাখনা দ্বিখণ্ডিত এবং উপরের খণ্ডের চেয়ে নিচের খণ্ড তুলনামূলক দৈর্ঘ্য।
মোট দৈর্ঘ্য মাথার দৈর্ঘ্য ও দেহ উচ্চতার যথাক্রম ৫.৭-৭.৫ ও ৪.৩-৪.৬ গুণ (Rahman, 1989)। এদের পার্শ্বরেখা সম্পূর্ণ এবং অবতল। পার্শ্বরেখায় ৯৯-১১২টি আঁইশ বর্তমান (Talwar and Jhingran, 1991)।
এদের রূপালি বর্ণের দেহের উভয় পাশে উজ্জ্বল রূপালি বর্ণের ডোরা বর্তমান।

সর্বোচ্চ দৈর্ঘ্য (Maximum length)
নথিভুক্ত সর্বোচ্চ দৈর্ঘ্য ১২ সেমি এর অধিক (Day, 1878)। অন্যদিকে Fishbase (2015) অনুসারে এদের সর্বোচ্চ দৈর্ঘ্য মোট দৈর্ঘ্যে ১২ সেমি।

আবাস্থল (Habitat)
উষ্ণমণ্ডলীয় স্বাদুপানির মন্থরগতির প্রবহমান জলাশয়ে বাস করে। প্রধানত ঝর্ণা, নদী, খাল, বিল, হাওড় ইত্যাদিতে বাস করে তবে পুকুর, ডোবা ইত্যাদিতেও পাওয়া যায়।
এরা জলাশয়ের উপরের স্তরে ঝাঁক বেধে চলে। প্রতি ঝাঁকে ১৫-৩০টি মাছ দেখতে পাওয়া যায় (Rahman and Chowdhury, 2009)।

খাদ্য এবং খাদ্যাভ্যাস (Food and feeding habit)
এরা জলাশয়ের উপরের স্তরে বসবাসকারী পতঙ্গ (insects) ও এর শূককীট (larvae) খেয়ে থাকে EOL (2015)।

অর্থনৈতিক গুরুত্ব (Economic importance)
একক প্রজাতি হিসেবে এই মাছের উৎপাদন তথ্য পাওয়া যায় না। অন্যান্য মাছের সাথে ধরা পড়ে। খাবারের মাছ হিসেবে এটি বেশ জনপ্রিয়।
পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন দেশে এ্যাকুয়ারিয়ামের মাছ হিসেবেও এর ব্যবহার রয়েছে।
বিভিন্ন ধরনের ডুব জাল দিয়ে এদের ধরা হয় ।
